Meet the owner: James
For James, Slumbers has always been more than a business - it’s part of who he is. He began working here at 14, delivering beds on Saturdays and learning what great service truly means.
After five years as a Police Officer in London, James returned to the industry he loves most, helping people sleep better. With over 25,000 deliveries to his name, he knows that the right bed can change the way you wake up.
When he’s not helping customers in-store, you might spot him back on the truck alongside the delivery team. Outside of work, James is an Ipswich Town fan, a traveller, and a lifelong enthusiast of cars and motorbikes - always happy to talk football, engines, or sleep.
The story of Slumbers
Late 1990's
Phil and Chrissie open their first bed shop, Floors and Snores, on Friars Street in Sudbury, where they grew up.
2000
Following the success of Floors and Snores, they open High Street Beds in Clacton-on-Sea.
2000
Following the success of Floors and Snores, they open High Street Beds in Clacton-on-Sea.
2003
They open more stores in the area (Sudbury, Clacton, Bury St Edmunds)
2004
James joins Slumbers as a Saturday delivery assistant while still at school then becomes full-time after finishing school, gaining experience across all areas of the business.
Today
Phil retires. Now led by James, Slumbers continues to serve Essex and South Suffolk with the same family values, friendly service and local spirit that have defined it for over 25 years.

Martin and Jack are the friendly faces making sure your new bed arrives safely and is set up perfectly.
Martin takes real pride in his work, ensuring every delivery runs smoothly and every customer is happy. He enjoys meeting new people and making a difference in their day. Jack combines his college studies with hands-on experience at Slumbers. Hardworking and full of energy, he brings enthusiasm to every delivery and is always ready to lend a hand.
Together, they’re the team you can count on - careful, considerate, and always ready with a smile. When you see them pull up with your new bed, you know it’s in good hands.
